Moving Shadows, Keene Valley
A big system sat overhead as I climbed Baxter Mountain, a small but strategic peak. Quite a few of the High Peaks and important drainages connect like spokes to Keene Valley, laid out below the open slabs here on the south side. I waited for breaks from above to light the landscape, small pieces of cumulus breaking off to race across blue sky and cast shadows that ran through the valley and up mountainsides. I was lucky for a while, but the balance tipped towards still-interesting skies but the subject mostly in shadow--not in favor of man and camera.
