Gaurding The Harem
Antelope, Vermejo Park, NM.
The rut was beginning, and this buck was parading his herd around as we crept through the meadow taking a few pictures each time we stopped, as the heads snapped up at these intruders. We were travelling through some of the high meadows in the shadows of the San Juans in New Mexico, so like the high meadows of Yellowstone which is also prime habitat for these beautiful animals. A few more feet closer, and they were off in an amazing burst of speed, their safe zone violated.
